Lead and Copper Rule (LCR) Program
City of Jetmore | Updated June 25, 2026
Overview
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has updated the Lead and Copper Rule (LCR). These changes require all public water systems—including the City of Jetmore—to create an inventory of water service line materials.
This effort is essential to help identify any remaining lead pipes and protect public health.
What This Means for You
Jetmore property owners must help verify the material of their water service line(s)—the pipe bringing water into the home or building.
Why It Matters
Lead is a toxic metal found in some older plumbing materials. Identifying and replacing lead or lead-contaminated service lines helps reduce exposure and protect our community’s drinking water.
How to Participate
Please inspect your service line and report your results.
Steps to Identify Your Service Line Material:
- Locate your water shut-off valve (often in a basement or utility area).
- Find the pipe entering your home from outside.
- If painted, scratch a small area to expose the pipe surface.
- Identify the material: lead, copper, galvanized steel, or plastic.
- Report your results:
- Online (preferred): https://arcg.is/1Srm191
- Or return the paper survey mailed to you.
Additional Information
- Homes built after 1988 are less likely to have lead pipes, but exceptions exist.
- The inventory is the first step; future requirements will address replacement of lead lines.
