June 4, 2026
The Jetmore City Council met in regular session on June 4th, 2026. Mayor Bill Goebel called the meeting to order and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll call was answered by Councilmen Jeff Channell, Kenton Ubelaker & Ron White. Also attending were City Clerk Casey Dansel, City Attorney Samantha Sweley, Undersheriff Brad Lightfoot & Larry Steinbring. Absent were Councilmen Cole Buffo and John Neeley and City Administrator Michael Ort.
Councilman Channell made a motion to approve the consent agenda containing the May minutes & Appropriation Ordinance #2026-05. Councilman Ubelaker seconded the motion; vote unanimous.
SHERIFF’S REPORT:
Undersheriff Lightfoot provided the council with the monthly report. Citations are still down due to the highway closure. Councilman Channell inquired about city lake permits and would like to see the sheriffs’ office checking all vehicles for permits. Brad informed the council that they are currently short staffed and doing the best they can with limited staffing.
CITY ATTORNEY REPORT:
Samantha reported things were going well and nothing new to report.
CITY CLERK REPORT:
Casey informed the council that she sat in on the bid opening with Kirkham Michael for the Airport project and that we only received 1 bid from Maxwell Asphalt, Inc. Casey also discussed with the council the resignation of Linda Hubin as our janitor. Casey then informed the mayor and council that she, Michael, and Connie discussed the situation amongst themselves and determined to bring the tasks in house at the King Center, Golf course & City Hall as needed during the workday. Casey also reported to the council that we received 4 applications for the job opening.
BUSINESS ITEMS:
Resolution 2026-04 was presented, setting dates for fireworks discharging in the City of Jetmore for the year. Proposed were the same days as the previous year, Tuesday-Saturday. For 2026, that would be June 30-July 4, 10am-11pm Tuesday through Friday and 10am until midnight on Saturday the 4th. Councilman White made a motion to approve Resolution 2026-04. Councilman Ubelaker seconded the motion; vote 2-1 with Councilman Channell voting no.
Larry Steinbring addressed the council with concerns regarding parking on Main Street. With the new addition of the coffee shop, there isn’t enough parking for all the businesses on that block, particularly when the coffee shop hosts events. He asked the council to consider changing the parking to diagonal parking instead of the current parallel parking to create more parking spaces for customers. Attorney Sweley would like us to research if the parking was changed as an ordinance or simply as a motion so we know how to proceed. Council will table the discussion until more info is gathered.
GOVERNING BODY COMMENTS:
City Council discussed moving forward with economic development in house.
Council discussed several more properties that need to receive letters regarding mowing and clean up. Casey suggested making a Facebook post to remind patrons of the ordinances and let them know we are going to start enforcing them.
Council discussed job opening and extending the deadline for applications. They also discussed placing the ad in the Dodge paper and online.
Councilman Channell made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Ubelaker seconded the motion; vote unanimous. Meeting adjourned at 8:26 p.m.
