April 2, 2025
The Jetmore City Council met in regular session on April 2nd, 2025. Council Chairman Jeff Channell called the meeting to order and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll wall was answered by Councilmen Cole Buffo, Jeff Channell, Charles Leet, John Neeley & Mike Thornburg. Also attending were City Administrator Michael Ort, Assistant City Clerk Connie Olson, City Attorney Clayton Kerbs & Undersheriff Brad Lightfoot. Absent was Mayor Bill Goebel.
Councilman Buffo made a motion to approve the consent agenda containing the March minutes & Appropriation Ordinance #2025-02. Councilman Neeley seconded the motion; vote unanimous.
SHERIFF’S REPORT: Undersheriff Lightfoot gave an update for the month. They are completing area checks daily. Reported they are having some issues with CAD.
BUSINESS ITEMS:
Council Chairman Jeff Channel, as Acting Mayor, appointed Jennifer Ort and Kellan Shafer to a second four-year term on the library board. Councilman Buffo made a motion to approve the reappointments. Councilman Thornburg seconded the motion; vote unanimous.
Council discussed a water leak at Tracie Waterhouse’s residence. Councilman Thornburg made a motion to forgive the excess charges on her water bill. Councilman Neeley seconded the motion; vote unanimous.
Councilman Channell requested a 5 minute executive session. Councilman Neeley made a motion to enter into executive session for 10 minutes pursuant to the non-elected personnel exception, K.S.A. 75-4319(b)(1). Councilman Thornburg seconded the motion; vote unanimous.
Councilman Buffo made a motion to exit executive session and return to regular meeting. Councilman Neeley seconded the motion; vote unanimous.
Councilman Thornburg made a motion to give Clerk Casey Dansel and Assistant Clerk Connie Olson a $200 bonus. Councilman Neeley seconded the motion; vote unanimous.
CITY ADMINISTRATOR REPORT:
*City Administrator Michael Ort presented his travel/training/meeting schedule for the month.
*City Lake-The lake bathrooms have been opened for the season. City staff has made progress on the beach project. Family Outdoor Recreation asked for and was given permission by Mr. Ort to use the shooting range for a youth .22 shoot on April 12th from 11am-2pm.
*Power Plant-Midwest Energy will be changing out a transmission pole on 219 Rd on April 9th. While the work is happening, we will run the power plant to power town. Work should be over by noon. Afterwards staff will bring the generator up to 2500 kw for the monthly exercise.
*Well 15 Project-Test results were finally received for the test wells drilled last August. Results were not promising. Our engineer will be talking to Ned about our options.
*K-156 Waterline & Utility Poles Project-According to our engineers our waterlines and utility poles project for the K-156 expansion are set to go out for bids around mid June, with construction to take place in July.
GOVERNING BODY COMMENTS:
Council discussed wanting to schedule a meeting with the Economic Development Board to discuss the current job opening for the Economic Development Director position.
Councilman Thornburg made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Buffo seconded the motion; vote unanimous.
